Who we are
Jotter is an interactive teaching platform operated by Uncommon Studios Limited (company number 17021009), registered at 167–169 Great Portland Street, London W1W 5PF. We're the people responsible for the information described here.

What we collect & why
What we hold depends on how you use Jotter. We've kept it to the minimum we need.

Where your data is stored
Your information is held in the European Union. The Jotter database (student activity and lecturer accounts) runs in Google's European data centres. If a provider occasionally processes an IP address outside the EU or UK, we rely on the safeguards required by UK and EU data protection law, such as adequacy decisions or Standard Contractual Clauses.
Who we share your data with
We don't sell your data, and we don't use advertising or analytics trackers. We use a small number of trusted providers to run the service:

Each provider only processes data on our instructions. We'll also disclose information if the law requires us to.
How long we keep your data

Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you;
- Correct anything that's wrong;
- Delete your information;
- Restrict or object to how we use it;
- Receive a copy of it to take elsewhere.
Email hello@jotter.education and we'll respond within one month. Because student activity data is anonymous, we may not be able to identify a specific student's records, but we're happy to explain exactly what's held.
Where we get your information from
Directly from you: when a lecturer creates an account, or when a student opens a study using the link their lecturer shared. We don't buy personal information from anyone else.
Cookies
Jotter uses only strictly necessary cookies and local storage: to keep lecturers signed in and to remember a student's progress on their own device. We don't use tracking, advertising or analytics cookies.
Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first at hello@jotter.education so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this notice
If we change how we handle your information, we'll update this page and revise the date at the top.
